Javy, now 24 years old, was born and raised in Madison, GA, and spent his entire life in the Lake area. He began his roofing career at 16 by contacting his uncle, who owned a roofing business, for a job, where he gained a broad knowledge of installing various roofing styles for custom complex projects with the highest quality.
“At the age of 16, we were in a situation,” says Javy, explaining his motivation to start his career as a roofer. “I had a single mom who worked countless hours daily to make ends meet. So I had that ambition to want to help and provide better, not only for me but for my family around me.”

For Javy, a typical day as a roofer in Georgia is challenging due to the weather and steep, dangerous roof conditions.
“A typical day for a roofer in Georgia will be a hot, sweaty, messy job,” he says. “But just doing what it takes, and every day at the end of the day, you’re going to be a tired guy ready to get home and get in bed.”

“All of our team is equipped with safety harnesses and safety ropes approved by OSHA. That’s all in place as a fall protection system in case of an accident,” he says.

Javy advises young people interested in pursuing a career in roofing to try hands-on work in the industry.
“I think being hands-on is very important. It is a challenging part of the workforce, especially as you’re trying to work your way up the ladder. The work is something you have to put in, I believe, to get a good return,” says Javy.
In addition, he believes hard work will lead to gaining knowledge, integrity, and learning what hard work truly is.
Staying updated with new industrial materials, techniques, and regulations is also important in this trade. Javy stresses the importance of research and good relationships with manufacturer reps and suppliers.
“If you have that good relationship with your rep, they’re going to call you when these things are out because their job is being a rep is to provide their consumer with the newest, the best products that they can give you,” he adds.
Attending roofing venues and events yearly is also a great way to network with other roofers and learn from them.
